Hot air ballooning in Cappadocia

...

Loving Hipstamatic. It makes the very ordinary look kind of cool: I took these on the walk to the tube this morning.

This might be strange, but I fell a bit in love with this tree at our hotel in Milan. Look at it - it's amazing!!

Milano

We had just one morning in Milan, but managed to scoot around pretty well - mostly around Via Monte Napoleone.

Galleria, Milan

Shopping in the famous Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II in Milan. The floors were my favourite thing about it. This is an old picture of it, from 1880:

I'm just back from a week in Turkey. Unfortunately it rained every day we were there, but it didn't spoil the trip, which was amazing from start to finish.

We had a few days in Istanbul, saw the Blue Mosque (above), Topkapi Palace, rummaged in the markets at the Grand Bazaar, lay by the pool on the brief occasion the sun came out, crossed from Asia to Europe and back again by ferry, saw the whirling dervish, did a day trip to Gallipoli, ate a lot of Turkish Delight, and just generally soaked up the sights and sounds. Then on to Cappadocia, where we stayed in a cave hotel, went hot-air ballooning, went to a Turkish hammam, and pottered around the local shops and cafes.

I have hundreds of photos to sift through, but will be sure to post a few soon.

This is where we stayed in Bellagio: the Belvedere. I had my first swim of the season.

This is the town of Bellagio on Lake Como: a little slice of paradise. I was there for the bank holiday weekend with a couple of girlfriends. More photos to come.

Where to Stay... Marrakech

This is the hotel we stayed at in Marrakech, called La Sultana. I love the skinny bricks on the facade of the building.

The hotel is tucked away in a side street in the old medina, and has views from the balconies down into the market-place:

Big brass doors at the entrance:

When we arrived, we were ushered into a very plush room for tea and sweets:

This is of one of the alcoves outside the suites:
This was my room. Amazing!

I fell a bit in love with the gold basins and fixtures in the bathroom.

The three elements in Moroccan architecture are tiles, stucco, and timber ceilings. Taking photos of the ceilings and the stucco was quite difficult because of the light, but here are three of the stucco work. Beautiful.
